STATEMENTS OF BEHAVIOUR
As students gain maturity and move through the grades, we expect increasing responsibility and self discipline. Our school is a safe and caring environment where we will all do the following:
- Show respect to other people and their property
This means we will show people kindness and courtesy. We will help people; we will work to see that the property of others is not damaged; we will include others in activities; we will listen to what other people say and recognize what others do; we will follow directions. We will act in a manner that models behaviour for our school.
- Act so we do not hurt other people or threaten to hurt or bully other people
This means we will not do anything that will hurt a person’s body or their feelings by actions or words. We will find ways to handle problems that avoid hurting others. We will inform a "tellable" adult in a timely fashion of incidents of bullying or harassment or initimidation.
- Give others a chance to play and learn
This means we will help others to join in activities; we will cooperate with each other. We will try to bring a positive attitude to everything we do and recognize the efforts of others. Respect the right of others to learn.
- Make school a safe place to be
This means we will remind each other of ways to stay safe.. We will keep our environment clean.. We will be aware of emergency procedures and follow directions.
- Foster an environment that is free of discrimination
This means students feel safe and belong; are free from discrimination; we promote a climate of understanding and mutual respect.
- Take responsibility for our actions
This means we will try to maintain satisfactoy attendance and punctuality. We will cooperate with teachers and those in authority, follow school rules, be honest about our behaviour and do our work to the best of our ability. Expectations regarding acceptable behaviour apply to behaviours at school and on school related activities.

LATE POLICY
Saseenos Elementary School
PROPOSED LATE POLICY Grades 1-5 Registration
Rationale: According to the School Act, punctuality is an important expectation of student behavior. Punctual students show respect for the learning of others by not disrupting a class in session, and punctual students hear important instruction that is usually given at the start of class. This policy attempts to provide a balance between clear consequences for numerous unexcused lates with a “second chance” so that punctuality becomes habit for students. This
policy also recognizes that sometimes being late is unavoidable. A medical (or other professional) appointment is considered an excused late.
Bell times: 8:40 warning bell 8:45 Students should be seated in their classrooms. Procedures: In each of the three reporting periods, a student will be permitted three unexcused lates for morning registration. Students who are late for any reason must check in at the office for a late slip. As a rule, students with subsequent unexcused lates will be assigned consequences as follows:
4th late homeroom teacher informs parents 5th late detention from homeroom teacher 6th late referral to the principal as a chronic late for a detention/discussion 7th late one-half day in-school suspension or community type service and/or detention time and letter to parent 8th late at the discretion of the principal The principal will inform students of this policy in advance of implementation on February 22, 2010. The policy will appear on the school website.
Hardship Clause - Families experiencing financial hardship may contact the principal to request to have fees (eg. transportation) waived. February 2010 approved by PAC and teachers at Saseenos
